Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios made a profitable debut as a doubles pair after beating Alexander Erler and Andreas Mies 6-4 6-7 (4) 10-8 on the Brisbane Worldwide.

Though it was a good battle, the 2022 Wimbledon singles finalists appeared like the higher duo as they did not face a single break level – all whereas creating six break factors for themselves. 

However after breaking Erler and Mies within the tenth recreation of the primary set to clinch the opener, Djokovic and Kyrgios missed out on a complete of three break factors throughout two video games early within the second set. 

And so they paid the worth for that because the Austrian/German duo managed to power a tie-break and win it to ship the conflict right into a match tie-break.

Nonetheless, the Serb and the Australian did not panic as they received three consecutive factors to open a 5-2 lead earlier than finally going 9-6 up and sealing the win after changing their third match level.

Now, Djokovic and Kyrgios are set to fulfill No. 1 seeds Nikola Mektic and Michael Venus within the Brisbane quarterfinal.

Djokovic, Kyrgios replicate on their win

“That was awesome! An amazing atmosphere. Great to be back,” the document 24-time Grand Slam champion stated afterward.

“I want to thank Nick for playing. He said the other day it should be a pleasure to play with him and it is!

“I am glad to share the courtroom with him on his comeback. I have never performed many doubles matches, so no matter Nick was saying I used to be following.”

Meanwhile, the Australian observed: “I used to be shocked he doubted himself a bit of bit in some moments and I used to be like ‘brother, you are the best of all time, go for it, do what it’s a must to do.'”

Also, Kyrgios shared that he and Djokovic had a deal in place that they wouldn’t retire before teaming up at least once.

“We promised we have been going to do that one time earlier than he goes or I am going,” the 29-year-old stated.
